The eCommerce giant has established a new “counterfeit crimes unit,” a global team made up of former prosecutors, experienced investigators and data analysts dedicated to fighting counterfeiters on the platform.

This comes just as lawmakers urged Amazon and eBay executives to take a stronger stance against 3rd party vendors who sell fake goods on their websites. In just 2019 alone, Amazon blocked over 2.5 million fraudulent accounts and over 6 billion phony products from being listed on Amazon.com.

With knockoffs continuing to be a serious problem, Velocity Commerce Group has made combating Amazon counterfeiters one of our core strengths. We understand how knockoff products can negatively affect our clients’ businesses, and with the help of our proprietary tools, we can identify fraudulent activity and protect our clients’ brands.

Some companies like Nike have completely stopped selling on Amazon, claiming that the website’s counterfeiters weakened their sales and credibility. But with Amazon dominating the global marketplace, few brands can (or should) eliminate the online retailer from their selling strategy.
